Gauntlet 1520-30
Metacarpal of four plates joined to fingers of four plates by a knuckle rider drawn up to a tall ridge with double lines of roping. Cuff of 2 plates opening on a hinge and closed by a pin. The cuff with an embossed teardrop shaped bump over the ulna. Cuff, metacarpal and finger plates fluted overall with parallel flutes accented with parallel engraved lines on each side of the flute. Buckle riveted inside the wrist of the cuff. A modern strap corresponds. Thumb missing. Rivets replaced (the thumb side rivet on the base metacarpal plate moved back). Internal cuff plate appears to be associated - probably from a slightly later (c. 1540) gauntlet and using a later 16th c. hinge.
Measurements: Weight: 15.6 ounces (440g).
