17th century
cuirassier knee cop from a 3/4 armour. Mostly ground finish with black and white decoration - the recessed band on the wing is left black and rough from the hammer. Includes holes for securing the articulation rivets and for the leather strap at the back of the knee. The cop is marked with an X on the inside near the center. This appears to be an assembly mark. The metal shows extensive signs of delaminations and some pitting. It appears to have been formed from relatively low quality material, typical of much munition armour.
Measurements: Wing 5 5/8 in. tall, Center of the cop at the points 3 3/8 in. tall, inner rolled edge 2 in. tall, wing app. 4 in. from the cop to the point.
Thickness .040-060 in. most of the area .045-050.
Weight: 9.4 ounces (265 g).
